Portugal

From Dec. 1st to Dec 11th, 2019, 13 members (1 director, 1 poet, 2 musicians, 5 percussionists, and 4 dancers) of the Maracatu group Leão de Ouro de Condado (Pernambuco, Brazil) were invited to Lisbon for a 10-day residence.

This was the first time that a Maracatu de baque solto group visited Portugal.

A one-week workshop with local inhabitants was organized in order to form a larger Maracatu group.

Various performances were then organized, including a parade in the city center followed by an outdoor party in a fixed location.

Several round-tables, conferences open to the general public, and individual performances by artists Helder Vasconcelos and Aguinaldo Roberto were also organized.

This project has been possible thanks to generous support of: FCT, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon, Lisbon City Council, Associação “Renovar a Mouraria”, Largo Intendente, Centro de Inovação da Mouraria, Groupo Desportivo da Mouraria.
